WARM YOUR COCKLES WITH THE ‘BEST OF BRITISH’ AT THIS YEAR’S SEAFOOD FESTIVAL

12 July 2019

− English wine, seafood, fishermen, producers and chefs celebrated at Nyetimber Dorset Seafood Festival−

Over the weekend of 13th and 14th July, Weymouth Harbour plays host to the award-winning Nyetimber Dorset Seafood Festival, and the Festival is truly embracing all that is British this year. New title sponsor, world renowned English sparkling wine producer Nyetimber, offers the perfect accompaniment to pair with delicious local fish. The Festival also brings together fantastic local and national chefs, skilled fishermen, and innovative local producers to celebrate the excellent variety of seafood found off British coasts.

Top chefs such as Mark Hix, Mitch Tonks and Pete Murt (shown below) showcase ways to work with delicious UK fish, offering sustainable ideas for recipes and encouraging visitors to make the most of British seafood.

Cherie Spriggs, Head Winemaker at Nyetimber comments:  “Spread across several separate sites, Nyetimber’s vines are perfectly suited to the greensand and chalk soils of Sussex, Hampshire and Kent. The gentle south-facing slopes allow for the best possible exposure to the English sunshine, ensuring our grapes achieve the optimum level of ripeness before harvest. Nyetimber’s sparkling wines are the perfect accompaniment to a wide range of British seafood and we are excited for this year’s Nyetimber Dorset Seafood Festival.”

As well as delicious sparkling wine, the Nyetimber Dorset Seafood Festival also offers hearty Badger Beers, crafted in Dorset and inspired by the county’s stunning countryside. For those in need of a pint head to the first ever Hall & Woodhouse pub, The Ship Inn over the festival weekend or find the Badger Zone.

Celebrating the very best of British, the Nyetimber Dorset Seafood Festival, provides the perfect opportunity for the Great British staycation, with visitors to Weymouth able to enjoy not only the Seafood Festival but also the wonders of the Jurassic Coast.  Guests are invited to stay at Festival sponsors Dream Cottages or across three different sites with Waterside Holiday Group.

Laura Avant, Festival Director, comments: “The Nyetimber Dorset Seafood Festival is a celebration of UK seafood, and fishermen.  Some of the most innovative ways of preparing and cooking seafood are showcased by our amazing stallholders and renowned chefs.  From cuttlefish croquettes to devilled crab crumpets, the amazing variety of British produce is outstanding.”

Weymouth is fast becoming a foodie haven, with Mitch Tonks opening his first restaurant here in August, Rockfish. It won’t be long till more big chefs set up camp permanently!
