FISH AS FAR AS THE EYE CAN SEA - THE UK’S LARGEST SEAFOOD MENU

05 July 2019

− The Nyetimber Dorset Seafood Festival showcases the largest seafood menu in the UK−

Over the weekend of 13th and 14th July, Weymouth Harbour plays host to the award-winning Nyetimber Dorset Seafood Festival, with over 100 stalls and top seafood chefs, producers and fishermen in attendance.

The free-to-attend festival is the biggest Seafood Festival in the UK and as a result provides the largest seafood menu in the country!  With over 40 individual menus already presented, each perfect for pairing with the very best of English sparkling wine from Nyetimber, the weekend promises to be a haven for seafood lovers.

The 2019 festival aims to highlight the importance of sustainability when it comes to seafood and will focus on locally caught Brown Crab or ‘edible crab’.  Working closely with Seafish, the authority on seafood, festival organisers request that stand holders use species that are native, seasonal, local and responsibly sourced.  With this in mind you can now see the 2019 menu creations here.

The Nyetimber Dorset Seafood Festival is passionate about selling quality and responsibly sourced seafood. The catch methods employed by fishermen are equally as important as the type of seafood being fished.  The Festival promotes methods such as line caught, trapped, hand dived or static nets, which help maintain fish stocks and protect the environment.  The Sustainability Awards at the Festival were set up to encourage stall holders to think about how their produce impacts factors such as the environment and to share their knowledge and skill at preparing and cooking sustainable seafood.

Matthew Budden, Executive Chef of The Hilton Hotel Bournemouth, comments: “I have judged the Sustainability Awards at the Dorset Seafood Festival for a few years now and each year the quality and knowledge gets better and better.  We not only look for sustainable or responsibly sourced types of seafood but also the information the stand holder shares with visitors to the Festival – why is this seafood sustainable?  What’s its provenance?  Is the packaging of the serving sustainable/recyclable?

The overall presentation and experience offered to the visitor is also taken into account, including value for money and portion size.”

The Nyetimber Dorset Seafood Festival stand holders are award-winners, experts, specialists and enthusiasts, their innovative and exciting menus include: cuttle fish croquettes from Little Berwick Hut, popcorn cockles from Assembelly, crab mac and cheese from Thyme & Tide, devilled crab crumpets from MIR seafood, and hot pollack dogs from Alexandra Hotel and restaurant – who were the 2018 Gold winner of the Sustainability Awards.
