− Bring the whole family to The Pommery Dorset Seafood Festival 14th & 15th July 2018 –

The Pommery Dorset Seafood Festival is the perfect day out for all the family.  Sit by the harbour and enjoy a glass of Pommery whilst tucking into delicious seafood, or set off to explore the festival and all the child-friendly activities on offer.  From treasure trails to crabbing competitions, the kids will love the Pommery Dorset Seafood Festival and it’s a great excuse for the Mum’s and Dad’s to enjoy the champagne and sunshine!

A visit to the award winning Pommery Dorset Seafood Festival, which is free to attend - is the perfect family day out.  The festival organisers work tirelessly to ensure that all visitors really get to experience the seafood journey and better understand the seafood available from our shores.

Key family highlights include:

Navy Vessel: Captain and crew of one of the new Fisheries Protection Squadron vessels look forward to welcoming families on board all in support of the Fishermen’s Mission – unless of course she gets called out on a top-secret mission! The mission of the Fishery Protection Squadron is to patrol the fishery limits of England, Wales and Northern Ireland - an area that covers over 80,000 square miles of sea and stretches up to 200 miles from the coastline.

Fishy Magic: Head over to The Ship pub garden at 3.30pm daily for some fishy magic with the Great Baldini.

Dream Dorset Trail: Put your thinking caps on and your best foot forward to explore this free family friendly trail. Search for clues high and low along old harbour, and up and around the beautiful Nothe Gardens. Meet the Nothe mice, play traditional games at the stone pier and keep an eye out for questions to complete your trail. With an incredible family holiday to be won at one of Dream Cottages 5* Weymouth properties and fun activities to see and do along the way, the Dream Dorset Trail is the perfect family addition to the Seafood Festival.

  • The trail will run from 10am-4pm Saturday 14th and Sunday 15th July
  • Maps will be provided by Dream Cottages for free
  • The first 500 children per day will win an artisan edible medal
  • You must complete the trail questions to be in with a chance of winning.

Family Activity Area - The Fishermen’s Mission will be curating a family workshop – free for all the family! With knot tying, basket weaving and lobster pot making for all the family to get stuck in with. Materials are provided, and helpers are on hand to aid with the creative flow!

A family favourite returning in 2018 is the Crabbing Competition with Weymouth Angling. Last year, prizes were awarded for the most crabs caught, the biggest crabs, the smallest and crabs with the most barnacles!

Bella Ceramics makes its festival debut this year - hot on the fishtail of 2018’s trend in pottery making. Children can make a variety of ‘sea themed’ pottery.

Bring your best singing voice – the festival welcomes back old favourites, the shanty band plus an exciting performance from Dorset Rock Choir.

The Seafish marquee - Seafish is running a campaign, ‘Fish 2 a week’, focusing on the health benefits of eating two portions of seafood a week. Join in with hands on sessions, learn about underutilised species, bring the family to try new experiences and find out why we should all be eating more seafood. Get involved one our ‘Crab Picking’ session – see website for more details

With the emphasis on responsibly sourced seafood from the region where possible, the Pommery Dorset Seafood Festival helps raise money for the Fishermen’s Mission charity.
