Rail Sponsor Boosts Festival Footfall

02 June 2015

Train travellers on the London to Weymouth line increase by 50% during the award winning Pommery Dorset Seafood Festival weekend.

Rail travel sponsor, South West Trains, have been supporting the UK’s largest free Seafood Festival for eight years and are pleased to be part of the event’s campaign to not only bring high net worth visitors from the London area but also to lighten the traffic burden as thousands descend on Weymouth Harbour for the ultimate, annual seafood and champagne experience.

Event Director, Brian Cooper says “The Pommery Dorset Seafood Festival contributes significantly to the visitor economy of Weymouth and with sponsors such as Pommery Champagne, it makes sense that people either stay over or take the train.   The Festival atmosphere is second to none, with around 100 stallholders offering a mouth-watering selection of tasty fish dishes, a pop up restaurant and family entertainment, it’s good to be able to relax.”

Brian continues “Much of the local accommodation gets booked up for the next year immediately after the Festival, so plan ahead, use the train.  South West Trains is our official rail travel sponsor and you can get some good deals if you book early.”

Chris Ellis, West of England Area Manager for South West Trains, said: “We are delighted to once again support the UK’s largest free Seafood Festival and look forward to taking passengers to Weymouth on the 11th and 12 July.”

A not for profit event, the organisers are looking to beat the £11,000 raised for The Fishermen’s Mission, the event’s chosen charity, in 2014.  For more information, visit www.dorsetseafood.co.uk or www.southwesttrains.co.uk follow us on Twitter or Facebook.
