Dorset Seafood Festival announces Dorset Echo as Media Partner

22 April 2014

The Dorset Echo is announced as one of the main media partners of the 7th Pommery Dorset Seafood Festival, 12th and 13th July 2014, Weymouth Harbour, Dorset.   Good news for Dorset’s award winning event as it continues to attract 50,000 visitors to the area over the weekend.

Toby Granville, group editor of the Dorset Echo said: “We are thrilled to be one of the main media partners of the Dorset Seafood Festival – and we look forward to providing our readers with great coverage of this event in the Dorset Echo newspaper and online on our website dorsetecho.co.uk. This is one of the premier events in the county’s calendar, going from strength to strength each year while raising thousands for the Fishermen’s Mission – a fantastic cause – and we’re proud to be part of it.”

Over 100 delicious dishes of fresh seafood together with champagne and wine stands will be hosted in the picturesque setting of Weymouth Harbour for the 7th year to deliver the UK’s largest free seafood street food festival.  The Dorset Echo will play an important role in driving awareness for the event across its vast news platforms.  There is also an APP available to help plan your weekend and an updated website will soon be ‘mobile friendly’.

Organisers are delighted that nearly all of their sponsors have returned to support again in 2014.  These include Pommery Champagne, Piddle Brewery, ARA Wines, Weird Fish and Lloyds Bank, with Dorset Dream Cottages and Penn Castle as competition sponsors.

Taking place over two days, the 2014 Pommery Dorset Seafood Festival will offer something for everyone.    Events include interactive seafood demonstrations, competitions, a music programme, whelk revival, champagne pouring activities, music, entertainment, expert food and wine matching – overseen by the smooth tones of broadcaster Neil Phillips, AKA ‘The Wine Tipster’.

Chefs and experts lined up to date including Great British BBQ Champion – Ben Barlett, The Dining Room’s Taher Jibet, John Wright from River Cottage, Masterchef winner and Chef Patron of The Casterbridge - Mat Follas, Dorset’s Michelin chef from Sienna - Russell Brown and award winning chef patron, Nigel Bloxham from The Crab House Cafe. Experts and fishermen from all over the South West are joining together to bring you a memorable and delicious Festival this July.

Brian Cooper, Dorset Seafood Director commented : “we are delighted that the Dorset Echo will once again be one of the main media partners of the Pommery Dorset Seafood Festival.  We are very appreciative of their coverage and the awareness that they deliver for this award winning event.  Whilst enjoyment is at the heart of the event we are also committed to raising much needed funds for our chosen charity The Fishermen’s Mission.  Last year we were able to raise £7973 and the aim is to beat this for 2014.   Fishermen have had a tough start to the year with the UK storms.  The Fishermen’s Mission has launched an emergency appeal to help them and we hope to support them in their task.”
