Seafish and Love it!

22 April 2014

Seafish, the UK authority on seafood, are once again supporting the free to attend, spectacular Pommery Dorset Seafood Festival taking place in Weymouth’s 17th century Old Harbour on the 12th and 13th July this year.

On average, over 50,000 seafood lovers come to enjoy the two-day heady mix of delicious seafood and champagne each year.  The event has a responsibility to ensure that the public are informed about the health benefits of seafood, and with the help of Seafish, also prioritises the promotion of sustainable seafood from around our shores.

Chris Middleton, Head of Communications at Seafish says: “Balancing the needs of everybody involved in the UK seafood industry is a complex task, and one that involves taking on a range of responsibilities and activities.  By working alongside successful consumer events like the Pommery Dorset Seafood Festival we are able to inform visitors about some of the stories that lie behind the seafood they are enjoying over the weekend.  We’ve always found the Festival to be fun and the audience very informed, so we are working on a programme of interactive talks and demos for the public to engage with that will tell the story behind the modern day industry and some of the fantastic initiatives they are involved in.”

Seafish will be running two days of activities showcasing Great British BBQ Champion – Ben Bartlett, Sue and Duncan Lucas from Passionate about Fish, and National, award winning fish and chip retailer Fred Capel, from Chez Fred,.  There will also be a range of experts from industry – all with a great story to tell about catching, conserving, processing and ultimately serving seafood from all over the South West.

Pommery Dorset Seafood Festival Chairman Roger Dalton says: “Research shows that our eating habits are already formed by the age of five, so make sure you bring the whole family along to the Seafish Marquee to enter competitions and to be encouraged to eat more fish.”

Here are just some of the fishes and dishes that will be starring at the Pommery Dorset Seafood Festival this year:   whelks, bass, lobsters, oysters, cockles, razor clams, scallops and crabs.
