Dorset Seafood Festival Vies for Top Tourism Award

25 September 2013

On 24th October, the Tank Museum at Bovington will host the first ever Dorset Tourism Awards ceremony.

Weymouth’s very own Dorset Seafood Festival is in line to pick up one of the top four awards in what is going to be a tough competition in the Tourism Event of the Year category.

Other Dorset events selected by judges to compete for the top slot include: The British Beach Polo Championships, held in Poole; Rallye Sunseeker 2012 & 2013 also held in Poole; and Sherborne Abbey Festival.

The 2013 Dorset Seafood Festival saw huge crowds enjoying the ambiance around Weymouth’s historic Old Harbour, with plenty of delicious seafood on offer from many of the 90 plus stands.  Top chefs demonstrated their skills and fish filleting demonstrations showed us all how it’s done!

The event started in 2008 has not looked back since it attracted the sponsorship of Pommery Champagne in 2010. In 2013 it was judged Britain’s 4th Best Food Festival by the Independent newspaper.

The steering group consists of Roger Dalton of Roger Dalton Associates, Brian Cooper of Resort Marketing, Paul Mills of Outside Edge and Anna Wallace of Brand Acceleration.

Chairman and Director of Dorset Seafood Festival Ltd, Roger Dalton said of the upcoming award: "It is fantastic news to be recognised again as one of the top events in the county and demonstrates the popularity of our local seafood and the attractiveness of the old harbour as a perfect location for events.  As always, its success is down to the hard work of the steering group, the sponsors and the many volunteers who make this event possible."
